Music Ministry

Music is a vital part of our liturgies and is truly our "prayer in song". We number 24  Cantor/Song-leaders/accompanists and a full time Director of Music Ministry, servicing parishioners who attend both St. Augustine and St. Joseph Churches. Our ministry takes pride in the music provided for the happy and sorrowful events of our parish life.

Couples planning weddings may select music from the Wedding Music Selection Form.

Grieving families planning funerals are given a brochure from which they may select many music offerings.

Cantors and Junior Cantors

Cantors lead the assembly in song and proclaim the Psalm at our weekend music Masses at both churches.
Scheduling is by rotation and Cantors attend four planning meetings per year.

Adult Choir

Parishioners of high school age and older are welcome to join our wonderful Adult Choir.  These are very committed volunteers who lead our assembly in song and prayer weekly at the 11 AM Mass at St. Augustine Church.  The Adult Choir also sings for special parish events, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Confirmation, nursing home visitations, Holy Week Services and more.
Rehearsals are held Mondays in the church, 7-8:30 PM.

Children's Choir

Students in grades 3-8 are welcome.  We are dedicated to enhancing the children's understanding and enjoyment of the Mass through song.  This choir sings once or twice a month at the 9:30 AM Sunday Family Mass at St. Augustine Church and is co-directed by Monica Steele and Pat Jennings.

Rehearsals are Thursdays, 3:30-4:30 PM in the church.  Contact Monica Steele at monicasteele@staugustineparish.org or 978.430.7922 for more information.

Youth Servant Choir

St. Augustine's Parish is forming a new choir dedicated to bringing song to the elderly in our community.  It is open to young people in Middle School and High School (grades 6-12).  We are looking for both singers and instrumentalists to join us!  Jean Mara and Susan Hawes are co-directing the choir.

The Servant Choir will be meeting at various elderly care facilities in Andover and North Andover on a monthly basis for approximately two hours.  Exact dates will be distributed at our initial meeting on October 19, 2008 from 11AM-12:30PM.  Location is St. Rita's Hall

If you would like to hear more about this newly formed music ministry, please come to our meeting.  If you have questions or can't make the initial meeting, feel free to contact Jean Mara at jeanmara@comcast.net or 978.474.8832.

In the words of St. Augustine, "He who sings, prays twice." Our ministry goal is to make our music song prayer in praise of the Lord.
